COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPER, NONCARBON TRANSFER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification UU-P-192.
This commercial item description covers paper capable of transferring an image through chemical interaction from one sheet to another of the same paper, when arranged in the proper sequence without the use of carbon.
Salient characteristic:
The paper shall be the size specified, and white, canary, pink, goldenrod, green, or blue in color, as specified. The paper shall be square on four sides with smooth edges. A tolerance of + 1/32 inch will be allowed for sheets 8-1/2 x 14 inch and smaller; and + 1/16 inch for larger sizes.
The paper will be considered square if the variation between diagonals of the sheet does not exceed 1/32 inch for sheets 8-1/2 x 14 inch and smaller; and 1/16 inch for larger sizes.
The paper shall be 100 percent chemical pulp free from poly-chlorinated biphenyls (PCB) with a basis weight of not less than 14 pounds and not more than 19.5 pounds (17 x 22 – 500), as specified, with a thickness of not less than 0.0027 inch nor more than 0.0042 inch. The paper shall lie flat with either no tendency to curl or with a curl which can be overcome under reasonable working conditions. The paper shall be free from lint, paper dust, grit, spots, wrinkles, folds, holes, tears, and cuts.
The paper shall be coated with chemicals to effect reproduction of the image onto the underlying sheet by means of chemical interaction. The top side of the sheet (face) shall be surface treated with a receiving chemical. The bottom side of the sheet (back) shall be surface treated with a transmitting chemical capable of reacting with the chemically coated top side of the underlying sheet to produce an image. This paper shall be suitable for letterpress and offset production of multiforms. The original and copies of the paper shall reproduce legibly on a Xerox copier.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handing and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
NOTE: In addition to the above required markings, the following instructions shall be included on each package: “Use only in combination with similar paper from the same manufacturer.”
