COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPER, CARBON, PENCIL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification UU-P-154.
Salient characteristics:
The carbon paper shall be furnished in black or blue and sizes as specified. A tolerance of + 1/32 inch is permitted on dimensions. The carbon paper shall consist of carbonizing paper coated on one side with a suitable form of carbon and other materials necessary to give the required copying qualities. The words “pencil carbon” shall appear on the uncoated side of the sheet.
The carbon paper shall not curl more than twenty percent when tested as follows: Two sheets of the carbon paper shall be removed from a previously unopened box and placed on a flat surface, one sheet with carbon side up and the other sheet with carbon side down. The sheets shall be exposed for 1 minute under atmospheric conditions of 50 + 2 percent relative humidity and 23o 2o C. (73o + 3.5o F.). The sum of the lengths of the portions of the short sides on each sheet not in contact with the flat surface divided by the sum of the length of the short sides multiplied by 100 equals the percent curl.
Impressions made with a pencil from the same carbon-paper area shall be examined and the number of legible impressions shall be a minimum of fifteen. Impressions shall be clearly legible on a minimum of two manifold copy sheets.
Workmanship. The carbon paper shall be free of lumps, wrinkles, holes, and other defects affecting appearance or serviceability. The coating shall be smooth and uniform over the entire sheet. The coating shall not flake during testing.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The item shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
