COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MINING TRANSIT BOOK
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification UU-B-625.
This commercial item description covers a mining transit book to be used by engineers for recording data obtained during field surveying operations possibly under adverse weather conditions.
Salient Characteristics:
Books shall be constructed with such materials and in such a manner so that the signatures and cover shall not separate when wet. Paper shall have a smooth water-resistant surface suitable for writing on with ink or pencil.
Line printing shall remain clear-cut with no ink smearing when written over when wet. Horizontal lines between opposite pages shall not register either above or below each other by more than one-half the height of the aligning grid.

Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging, and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
