COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CARDS, TABULATING, EAM
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification G-C 116.
This commercial item description covers two styles of tabulating cards with punched holes intended for use in recording information: Style A-45, 80, or 90 column card and Style B- 51 column card.
Salient characteristics:
Except as specified below, cards shall conform to section 2- Detail requirements and section 3- Paper requirements of ANSI Standard X3.11 as determined by using procedures of section 4- Test Methods.
Exceptions are:
1. Expansion and Contraction (paragraph 3.11) does not apply.
2. Abrasion Loss (paragraph 3.14) does not apply.
3. Dimensions of style A cards shall be as stated in paragraph 2.2 (height: 3.247 - 3.257 inches, base: 7,370 - 7,380 inches; style B cards shall have the same height as style A cards (3.247 - 3.257 inches) but shall have a base dimension of 4.847-4.857 inches.
4. Corner cut shall remove .250 inch + .016,- .024 inch from the long edge and .433 inch + .016,- .024 inch from the short edge for the card (at a reference angle of 60o to the long edge of the card), in lieu of paragraph 2.3.1.
5. The card manufacturer has the option of testing curl on finished cards per paragraph 2.7 or using the following alternate procedure:
Paper mill or commercial laboratory curl data on base-stock (used for card production) meeting the requirements of paragraph 2.7 (when tested according to 4.2) is acceptable in lieu of testing the curl of finished cards provided the cards meet the requirements of paragraph 2.7.1, 2.7.2, and 2.7.3.
Corners. Corners shall be square, diagonal cut, or rounded as specified in the contract or purchase order.
Color. A comparison sample shall be furnished by the ordering agency to show color of the card stock, and as applicable, color of stripes and printing required. Delivered cards shall conform favorably to the comparison sample and in all other respects, this description.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order. Shipping container shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.

Note. Purchasers should specify style, card color, color of stripes (if applicable), corner configuration, printing, and quantities required.
