2.2.5. Surface. All tracing papers shall be suitable for
pencil and ink lines yielding solid lines without skipping, feathering,
spreading or smudging. Types III and IV shall not show surface cracks or
abrasion with normal usage, and shall have a non-greasy surface suitable for
printing with offset inks. The printed copy shall yield solid, sharp
impressions which cannot be easily erased with a soft, non-gritty eraser. The
prepared finish shall be such that when passing through a reproduction machine
at peak temperature, the finished surface will not lift, flake or peel from the
paper.
2.2.6 Form. The tracing paper shall be furnished in rolls, sheets, or pads as
specified in the ordering description.
2.2.6.1 Sheets. Sheet paper shall be cut square on four sides, and cut to the
sizes specified in the ordering description. Sheets shall be not less than the
ordered size, and not more than +/- 0,2 cm (+/- 1/16”) over size in either
dimension for sizes 20.3 x 26.7 cm (8” x 10 1/2") through 38.1 x 45.7 cm
(15” x 18”) and not more than +0.3 cm (+1/8”) oversize in either dimensions for
sheets larger than 38.1 45.7 cm (15” x 18”). Any flat paper with a long dimension
81.3 cm (32”) or less will be considered square-cut if the variation of the
diagonals does not exceed 0.8 mm (1/32”); over 81.3 cm (32”), 0.2 cm (1/16”).
2.2.6.2. Rolls. Rolls shall be furnished in widths and lengths specified in the
ordering description. Tolerance on roll width shall be +0.6, -o cm (+1/4, -0”).
The paper shall be uniformly and smoothly wound with an even tension on a
fiberboard core having an inside diameter of 4.8 +/- 0.6 cm (1-7/8”, +/-
1/4") and shall be suitable restrained to prevent unwinding. The length of
the core shall be equal to the width of the roll material with a tolerance of
-0, +0.3 cm (-0, +1/8”).
2.2.6.8. Pads. Pads shall be furnished in widths and lengths as specified in
the ordering description with a tolerance of +/- 0.3 cm (+/- 1/8”). The number
of sheets per pad shall be as specified in the ordering description. Pads shall
be securely padded at the top and the sheets bound together with glue or other
commercially accepted method. Backs of pads shall be chipboard or other
suitable material.
2.2.7 Drafting quality. Type III and IV shall allow a pencil line to be erased
without causing ghosting, smudging, linting or appreciable change of color of
the erased surface. Inked lines shall show no appreciable spreading,
feathering, ragged edges or skips when drawn over a fresh or an erased area.
There shall be no signs of oil leakage. All tracing paper shall be free of any
tendency for sheets to adhere to each other.
2.3. Workmanship. Paper shall be uniform throughout and be free from holes,
tears, spots, wrinkles, dirt, foreign matter, or other defects which might
affect appearance or serviceability.
3. Bleaching. To obtain an acceptable brightness a chemical bleaching process
may be used. When specified in the ordering data, the bleaching process shall
not include the use of chlorine dioxide, hypochlorite, or other chlorine
containing compound. Certification of compliance shall be made available upon
request by the Government.
