COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ENVELOPE, MAILING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, for all Federal agencies.
Scope.
This commercial item description covers kraft, white and color wove envelopes.
Classification.
Envelopes shall conform to the applicable style as specified:
Style A - Bleached Kraft (see 1.K)
Style B - Natural Kraft (see 1.K)
Style C - White Wove (see I.L)
Style D - Color Wove (see I.L)
1. Salient characteristics:
A. Construction. Envelopes shall be high-cut diagonal, web-fed point flap, side seam or center seam construction, at the option of the supplier, unless otherwise specified in the ordering data. Envelopes shall be sufficiently high cut so as to prevent the flap adhesive from contacting the envelope contents. The sealed seams shall not adhere to the inside of the envelope. Envelopes shall be free from cuts, folds, tears, machine marks, foreign matter, dirt, ink smears and adhesive stains.
