COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAPERBOARD, DRAWING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use
of this commercial item description as a replacement for UU-P-663 which is
cancelled.
1. SCOPE. This description covers single and double faced paperboard for use in
pencil and watercolor drawings.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The paperboard shall be of the following, as specified:
2.1 Type 1 Single faced
2 Double faced
2.1.1 Grade A 100% cotton or linen
B 50% cotton or linen
2.1.2 Class 1 Rough finish
2 Smooth finish
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Material.
3.1.1 Facing sheet. The facing sheet shall be white in color. The fiber furnish
of the facing sheet for Grade A shall contain not less than 100 percent cotton
or linen fiber. The facing sheet for Grade B shall contain not less than fifty
percent cotton or linen fiber and shall be free from unbleached or groundwood
pulp. The facing sheet basis weight for both grades shall be 120 g/m2
(32 pounds (17 x 22 500 )) minimum.
3.1.2 Backing sheet. The backing sheet of type 1 paperboard shall be any color
except white to the facing sheet to establish the intended facing sheet. The
backing sheet for Type 2 shall conform to 3.1.1.
