3.2 Teletypewriter papers shall be furnished in roll. Multicopy rolls shall be assembled as indicated in the contract or purchase order with the number of plies necessary to furnish the number of copies specified.
3.3 The stock for papers used in class 1 grade A and class 2, grade A, class 4, grade A, class 5, grade A, and class 6, grade A, shall be a minimum of 95 percent bleached chemical wood fibers. Stock used for class 1, grade B, class 2, grade B, and class 5, grade B, shall be made from processed wood fibers. Manifold paper used in class 4 papers shall conform to the requirements for type V manifold paper specified in UU-P-328.
3.4 Rolls shall not be less than 213.12 mm (8 25/64 inches) wide. Colors shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order. Rolls shall have an outside diameter of not more than 127.00 mm (5 inches). The minimum length of paper on the rolls shall be as indicated in Table 1.

3.5 Rolls shall be one continuous length. Individual plies shall not be spliced. The edges of the plies shall be shear cut. Rolls shall be wound tightly and evenly and plies of multi-copy rolls shall be of equal width. Single copy rolls shall have the outer end secured by the spot gluing that will keep the roll from unraveling, yet permit separation, without the need of cutting the top layers of the roll. Multi-copy rolls shall have the outer end secure with a gummed sticker or label. All rolls shall have a contrasting colors signal imprinted on the outermost ply to indicate approach to the end of the roll. The signal shall be not less than 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) wide and shall be 1.5 to 3 m (5 to 10 Feet) in length ending not less than 1.5 m (5 feet) of the core end of the roll. The signal shall not impair the legibility of the copy printed on the paper.
3.6 The finish of teletypewriter papers shall be smooth but not glazed. The surfaces shall be free of lint and shall not pick in the teleprinter machines. The surface shall absorb teletype ribbon ink quickly without smearing or blurring of the printed characters.
3.7 Cores shall have the same width as the roll width specified, with a tolerance of + 0, - 1.59 mm (1/16 inch). Nominal 215.9 mm (8.5 inch) wide rolls shall be wound on a fiber core having an inside diameter of 25.4 mm + 1.27 – 0.00 mm (1 inch + 0.05 – 0.00 inch), and a wall thickness of 3.175 mm +/- 0.7925 mm (1/8 +/- 1/32 inch).
3.8 Workmanship. The end item shall be free of any defects such as, paper dust, grit spots, wrinkles, folds, holes, tears and smudges or any other defects that may affect appearance or serviceability. The edges of the end item shall not be nicked or uneven and shall be clean cut and lint free.
